I didn't really want to post anything till I knew for certain about work, perhaps it's a matter of superstition but regardless there is news now, and I wanted to write a bit about Vic's visit for spring break. But I'll leave that one for when I have time to write more.
Work...
Well I went to Rigdon Marine in New Orleans (well Kenner but close enough), and yesterday took a physical and drug test, which both passed with flying colors, even with not paying attention to my eating habits fully clothed I still weigh 228, and blood pressure and stuff are all good.
So I went back to the office this morning and sat through a bunch of company policy stuff, and got fed, and got paid 120 bucks basically to be told how cool the company I'm going to work for is.
And it is more or less. All the tale tell signs of blowing smoke up peoples asses weren't there. These folks honestly meant what they said about their putting the crew first both for safety and benefits. I'm making more money per day then I was at the last company, AND that's after taking out health insurance premiums and a 10 dollars a day 401k deposit.
Everything being discussed is in long term terminology, they expect, and strive to entice people to stay long term in real ways. Pretty much the company policy is more or less along the lines of exactly what I've been saying should be the policy for keeping crew since I came out to the gulf.
Also, I've been assigned a ship. Not just any ship mind you, but I'm going to the M/V Hammerhead,

Which was just christened yesterday. She still has to undergo sea trials and be put to work, but I get to be her AB as she does.
She's classified as a Fast Supply Ship.
So tomorrow morning sometime I head out to get on the ship in Port Fourchon. I'll be off the boat roughly Apr. 22nd.
