John Wesley was among the first of the colonists to arrive in Georgia, founded 1733. He was spurned by the woman he loved and went into a deep depression. In that dark mood he decided that if he had to be miserable, he would damn sure try to make other people miserable, too. . . so John Wesley established the first Methodist Church.
Fast forward a bit.
I now work private security at a civic center, and this week almost 3,000 Methodists gather for a convention. They make my life miserable.
Oh well. At least Methodists are cooler than most denominations, as far as being open minded.
