I have arrived!!!.. in queens.
so far i love it here.. its a little tough finding a job though.. relying on public transportation.. that im not familiar with.. and my girlfriend.. and.. with the way i look. not alot of places have ever wanted to hire me with all my tattoos and whatnot. (i usually take all of my facial piercings out.. and try to wear long sleeves).
Its such a shame that people still view body mods the way they do.
I understand that they are paying me.. as an employee.. to make a certain impression representing their company.. but when you think of certain stores.. your customers may have body mods too.
At my last job, in NJ, my mgr had asked me to remove my piercings for work.. and cover my arms, ok fine. The only thing wrong.. was the reason he gave me.. " its just that our older customers may not understand your look"
Why in the hell should I worry about people 'understanding my look'...?!?!
When I punch a hole in my face.. or ink my skin.. it is hardly to seek anyones understanding..
Companies make you accomodate the 40plus crowd.. the parents of the patrons.. etc etc... that dont 'approve'.. of piercings, tattoos.. etc.. but what about all of the younger crowd.. or even just anyone.. of any age that may have them... shouldnt we be able to make them comfortable as well.
Shouldnt we be able to have some things in common with our customers.. things we can relate to on another in certain stores.. and atmospheres.. things to strike up a convo about.. make them feel comfortable approachin me.
