It struck me funny this afternoon while out spraying some weeds, that I've seen some of the weeds that I was spraying, in hobby stores....dried and painted of course....to be used in flower arrangements, crafts, etc. It seems ironic that I was spending money and energy to kill them, while someone else is selling them and making a profit off of them. I have a sneaky suspicion that they come into the retail stores from overseas. I'm sure that most of the people who buy them in the retail stores, have no idea that they grow wild here and are considered weeds that need to be destroyed. Oh well.....
Wild sunflowers are another of the enemy around here. Sure they are pretty, but they can completely take over a field and ruin the crop that you've planted there. We've spent thousands of dollars on herbicides over the years to rid our fields of them. When my Dad died, someone sent a wreath made out of dried sunflowers. It was intricately woven and I'm sure it took a long time and lot of effort to make. I'm also sure the person who sent it and the flower store that filled the order never had a clue as to how we felt about sunflowers. It was a nice gesture, but we didn't put it with the rest of the flowers along side his casket. Dad hated sunflowers with a passion and I have no doubt that he would have sat upright in his casket and yelled, "Spray that thing with 2-4D!", if we had put it there.
Hope your week is going well!

Thinking is overrated, that's why I don't do it often.
I have missed you, my friend. I have been going through a rough patch, but should be back around here more.
