A little lighting....a little rumble....a little rain...in the night. It made for good sleeping weather. I'm not sure what it is about rain, that you can hear in the night, that makes sleeping so good.....perhaps it's the consistancy of the rain fall....like a ticking clock....that hypontises your brain into that deep peaceful sleep. Whatever it is, it seems to work!
Spring has always been a favorite time for me. I guess I've always liked the thought of the rebirth of life, after the long and deep freeze of winter....I've always marveled at nature's way of opening it's eyes after months of rest and sleep and then coming back to life, with new growth.
This was me....you can't really SEE me in this pic....a few years ago, planting corn, just about this time of April.
The earth has a special smell in the spring....when you slice it open to plant a seed. I can't describe it and if you've never smelled it, no one can adequately describe it to you....it's something you have to experience for yourself. This is the only time of the year, that I really miss actively farming. I even miss the smell of the diesel smoke and the feel of the power of the tractor, as you pull 12 rows of planter across the soil and plant 60 acres in 2 hours. Getting the crop planted on time...in the optimum window of opportunity....was always a great feeling of satisfaction. When you had 1000 acres to cover in only a few days, getting it all done on time, was always a good start to the crop year.
Sunshine forecast for today. I've got 4 acres of yard to mow today...then more lighting, thunder and rain for tonight.
A few ducks and 2 pairs of Canadian geese have taken up residence on the little pond behind my house. They've been here long enough that I think they must be nesting....which would be kind of neat, since any goslings born here would return here every year to have more babies.
A few of the ducks....they wouldn't take direction from me and all gather into one bunch for a group photo.
