Freezing drizzle here today, has put a fresh coating of thin ice on everything. I hate doing the "klutz dance on ice" just getting to the mailbox and back. Luckily, I managed to move my feet and legs fast enough to keep me upright and off of my ass....I'm glad no one was video taping the whole thing for an appearance on Funniest Home Videos. Although it's nice to know that the old body can still move pretty fast when it's called upon for self preservation.
I think I'll just stay inside today, where the footing is dry and solid and the atmosphere is warm and cozy....
Whenever I'm on ice, I get flashbacks to about this time 2 years ago when I slipped on ice and broke my ankle. I was carrying a 50lb. bag in my arms when I went down and stupidly my reaction was to twist my body, so as not to fall on the bag and bust it open. In doing so, the toe of my right boot caught on a frozen snow drift and snapped my foot to the right as my body twisted. I remember laying there on the ice, thinking I was OK and had saved the bag, when the guy behind me said, "Oh my God, you've broken your leg!" I felt down my leg and said, "No, I think I might have just twisted my ankle." It didn't really hurt...it had just kind of gone numb. But, when I stood up and put my legs together, my right foot was pointed off to the right of my body at a 90 degree angle. "That's not right....my foot is not supposed to be pointing in that direction," I said to myself. So, to make this long story short, I had broken it pretty badly and though I'm a good healer, it was close to 7 months before I was completely off the crutches and out of the velcro ski boot looking thingy. I suppose it didn't help that I fudged a little on the Dr.s' orders and was walking on it for more hours in the day than I was supposed to....but I was working and the job had to be done, so what are you going to do? It will never be as strong as it was before and I find times when I feel it give just a little, when the other ankle doesn't and it makes me cringe just a little for a moment. The weather affects it a little too....my ankle has become a weather forecaster....which I find hilariously funny when I tell people its going to rain, because my ankle says so.
OK...enough of that....
Today is Tuesday......meet it head on and conquer it!
