I bought a new Sony Home Theather Surrond Sound system this morning. One of these days I'm going to spring for the HD Direct TV reciever with DVR and then I'll be completely set.

It made me think about the old TV we had when I was growing up. B&W of course. I think the folks probably bought it sometime in the mid 50's....it was an Admiral brand. It had 2 knobs. One for on, off volume and one for channel changing. The knob for changing the channel, had a ring behind it and you could turn the ring to bring in the picture a little better...kinda fine tune it. I must've watched thousands and thousands of cartoons on that TV. I remember the speaker was just below the picture tube...covered with that khaki mesh stuff. It was an upright....with REAL wood cabinet. Actually, we still have it. It is above the garage, where we have a spare room for overnight guests. I think if went up there and plugged it in, it would come on and still work.

I distinctly remember our first color TV. It was coincidentally delivered on Oct. 28, 1968...my 10th Bday. It wasn't a present, but since it came that day, I've always remembered. A big old Zenith....console in wood cabinet. It had a clicker remote, that used tuning forks inside to change the channel. I think we could only get the 3 network channels and the PBS station that came from Iowa State University at that time. It didn't take long to click through the channels. Not long after we got it, a strange thing started happening. Sometimes with the TV on, it would change channels all by itself...with no one touching the clicker. It was weird. Dad called the guy we got it from and he came and took a look at it. Of course it wouldn't do it while he was there and he said everything checked out OK and just scratched his head over it. A day later, it did it again a few times. This went on for a couple of weeks....at what seemed like random times. We finally figured it out, about a week later. My oldest niece was just a few months old then and wore shoes that had little bells on them. They used to put little bells on baby's shoes back then. Anyway, when my sister visited and brought my niece, my niece would kick her feet and the bells had just the right tones to match the tones in the clicker and make the TV change channels. It was a relief to figure it out and the bells came off the shoes pretty quick.

Now, I'm off to set up my fabulous new surrond sound system!

My old roomate had surrond sound and he lived in the basement. He was a hermit and we would all be in the living room and hear explosions from his sector, that baby was LOUD!

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Being sick is no walk in the park. No walk anywhere really.

I'm not Irish, nor do i normally celebrate or care to but gersguy is a good friend and he is moving soon so i would like to hang out with him as much as possible. That's what friends are for ( key music into here biggrin )
