today, olivia and i finally made it down to city hall to watch the gay weddings. when we showed up, there were several local news trucks surrounding the area - some looked like they had been camped out for days. but i was surprised to see that things were quite calm. no christian protesters, no appearances by arnold schwarzenegger with a bazooka, in fact, not much of anything.

we watched several couples get married inside, which was quite touching. (they were getting through them quickly, one after the other, with short breaks for applause and photographs.) but you know, after the fourth or fifth wedding, i couldn't help but think, "what's the big deal". it really isn't a big deal. i'm not trying to be flippant - we had witnessed a beautiful, historic event that will certainly appear in text books in a couple of decades from now. but, when you get down to it, it was really just a bunch of older couples getting married. why is it such a big problem for people to accept? why does there even need to be a national debate? i feel like it's no one's business except the business of the couples and their families. olivia and i didn't have to ask america's permission to get married, why should any of those couples?

Yea, I got to go watch some of them too. My cousin is gay and lives in the city, and we got to watch some of his friends get married. It was a very cool thing.

You have to think about the good things that will come out of this though. Look at what Gavin Newson is doing and saying. He has said some amazing in the past few weeks. We just have to wait and see what happens.
