Things I like about the city:
that you can look up at the self-same skyline each morning and it'll always be different. If you can't step into the same river twice, you sure as hell can't wake up in the same city...

the city is just an idea, a passing fancy. It never lasts and it's always closer to falling apart than you'd imagine. Nature creeps in when you'd least expect it. I saw a Kingfisher in the centre of edinburgh a couple of weeks ago, which was just bizarre....

people. so many bloody people and all of the possibility that promises. It scares the hell out of me too, but it's good sometimes just to disappear into the crowd and float along. you can be anyone just for a little while.

beer coffee and decent pizza. These I could not live without.

being able to escape from it all.

Next week I'm going to see Mark Eitzel (from American Music Club) play at the venue. Quirky sad Americana from San Franciso, full of fog and bourbon. It's better than it sounds. He's someone I've been wanting to see for a decade at least and I'm excited and kind of scared too - that it might not live up to the idea of it that I have in my head. There have been so many bands that just weren't how I imagined, some truly bad and some just different. Which is sometimes not a good thing.
And does anybody else get that jealously thing (stop me if I'm sounding like a jaded hipster, I know too many of them) when you see all these people with a band that you've loved forever? You just wonder if they're feeling what you're feeling, if any of it's real.
Mostly it's just beautifully sad music.
Does it to me every time
