I took a random day trip yesterday, just to get out of the city for a couple of hours, escape just a little bit. In my wisdom I got on a train to a small and wet seaside town half an hour up the coast, shivered my way along the beach, took some photos of crumbling seaside buildings, ate some (pretty damn good) fish and chips and came home, a bit calmer and a bit soggier.
After a place apparently populated only by three-legged dogs and crazy people, Edinburgh suddenly doesn't seem so bad.

Funny how a change of perspective can do wonders...
On the train back, staring out the window at some point in the distance beyond all those gray fields, a train came past in the opposite direction, and for a second we shared the same uninterrupted view, like the other train wasn't there at all. It's all relativity, everything.
I came home and cooked myself happy. Made spiced butternut squash soup and a big, deep casserole of Italian sausages in red wine with juniper and rosemary and bay, with Polenta and even more red wine on the side. I also made enough apple sauce (with apples stolen from my friend's neighbour's garden...) to last me for weeks, so if you know anybody who needs some....
I like autumn. My favourite season by far, I don't want it to leave.
