I'm making a new post cause I haven't made one in forever.
So my prof for my general relativity class (my supervisor) said during our last class that he would just take our two assignment marks and our presentation marks and make that our final grade. Then we get an email the other day saying we have to do a take home exam now. He said we can do it in January, but still, a dick move.
Also I didn't get the TA position I wanted. I took a second year physics one this year and was happy cause I thought that meant I would get the related one next semester. The one that's based on special relativity, which is the reason I got into what I'm doing now. Turns out a phd student who has more seniority than me wanted it, so because he's been here longer he gets it. So next semester I get to TA first year bio students who are forced to take a physics course they don't want. Ah well, all my friends had to do it and I'll get to see the horrors of the quiz room they always talk about.

To answer your question, my job has absolutely nothing to do with my degree. I had originally hoped to use my degree as a springboard to get into teaching...but after spending a fair bit of time working with high school students, I realized that I was not the type of person who should be teaching. I am a manager/merchandise buyer for a big garden centre in the Toronto area. I worked in another department as a summer job when I was in university, and I found myself back there a few years ago. It's a much better fit for me, and I do think that the work I did in getting my degree has helped me with this job (in a tangential fashion).
Do you have any thoughts on what you'd like to do if you don't go the PhD route?
...and on a completely different topic, I just remembered that I'll be in your neck of the woods in January.
I'll be at UoG taking a two day course to get my Pesticide Vendor certificate. Very exciting, haha.
