Hi everyone.
I thought I'd share with you some happy news.
I'm applying to FIDM down in LA. This makes me very excited because I love fashion and want a career in fashion eventually. :]
I'm so excited for the project for the scholarships that I'm going to be doing.
Here is the project:
Create the look and feel for an existing store's upcoming launch of its Spring/Summer Merchandise. The subject matter of entries is restricted to Visual Design.
First, select the specialty store, for example: Forever 21, Banana Republic, Anthropologie, Abercrombie, etc. Then, on four (4) 15" x 20" illustration boards (horizontal only), using photos, magazines, newspaper, tape, glue, felt-tip markers, colored pencils, or computer applications, create the following:
* INSPIRATION BOARD:
o Show the look and lifestyle of the store's customers.
o Base your inspiration board on the research you will do about the look and feel of the Spring/Summer 2010 collections, preview the clothing and accessories from either visiting the actual store or going online.
o Use this board as your inspiration for the three parts listed below:
* FLOOR PLAN:
o Design a floor plan for the store described above that includes dramatic areas where you would place displays.
o Don't forget about lighting, fixtures, and furniture if they help to create the store's atmosphere.
* STORE WINDOW DISPLAY:
o Create a window display for the store that reflects the image of the store and the consumers who shop there.
* MAGAZINE LAYOUT:
o Use merchandise from the store to create a magazine layout that features one or more outfits with a setting, theme, and props (if needed).
o In the layout, reflect the image of the store and the target customers.
Doesn't that honestly sound like fun?! To me, it sounds like something I would do if I was bored and wanted to have some fun, so I'm excited. :]
Then for the admissions project I have to do this project:
Imagine you are an entrepreneur who has set out to develop a new line of clothing. First, create a company name and then determine the type of apparel that you would develop.
Choose a category and then select one of the choices within the category (A, B, or C). Describe this clothing line and identify the customer who would buy your line. You can do this through illustrations, photographs, or magazine-clippings. Include such information as age, income, education, and lifestyle (jobs, leisure activities, family life). This should be a word and a picture essay.

Be prepared to discuss the types of customers targeted and the types of merchandise shown in your project. Your work will be reviewed for creativity and quality of presentation. Remember: A neat presentation is always advantageous. All work submitted to FIDM becomes the property of the college and will not be returned.
Here's hoping that I get in. :] *fingers crossed*
