Day One Getting to Hawaii
The day started with only three hours of sleep and then it was off to DIA in Denver (for those who dont know where DIA is) and while there my brother, sister in law and I had a beer at 7:30 in the morning before we boarded our two hour flight to LAX. I read the whole way to LAX and when we got there we jumped a bus to Hermosa Beach for a few hours, talked to some cool people and hung out at the ocean for a bit before heading back to fly once again. Back on the plane I read for another five and a half hours until we touched down in Kona, Hawaii.
We got to our hotel in the Captain Cook area and checked in and then it was a mad dash to the market where we had three minutes to shop for food before they closed for the night. This was strange for me, Im not really use to everything closing down at ten, and check in was strange as well, there wasnt some one for us to sign in with or anything like a normal hotel, they just left our key on a hook with our last name on it and that was it. So we ate and had a few drinks before bed. And I slept great for the first time in weeks.
Day Two First full day in Hawaii
I got up after a great night sleep, had me a cigarette and took a shower (I really miss my shower head at home, but not enough to really care). After breakfast we jumped in the car and drove for a few hours to the first beach of the day, first of all the sand was some what coarse and black, thats right it was black sand, but the other great part to the beach was the five sea turtles just chilling on the beach taking a break from what ever sea turtles do. So I got some pictures of the turtles and then got my feet wet (well up to my waist really), and it was back to the car to drive to the second black sand beach of the day. The second beach was about a two hour drive from where we were and a quarter of the island away, we had to climb down the cliff to the remote clothing optional black sand beach. This time I went all in and damn near drown from the under toe, but it was a blast body surfing and just being in the ocean. It was about 6 p.m. when we left the beach and I had a crotch full of black rocks because it wasnt all fine sand, in fact the sand was only up to the water line and the rest was pebbles and larger rocks which tore up my toes and feet (even thou I was wearing water shoes).
So we left the second beach and headed to a little further east towards the active volcano where not only did I get to walk on fresh Earth but I got to witness new Earth being created at the time. This was a amazing site to see, lava hot explosions hitting water and creating a ass ton of steam, then there was a new eruption further inland and we got to see a lava flow down the side of the mountain. All I can say was that it was breath taking and I cant think of anyone I know that will or has ever seen something quite like that in their life and Im very thankful for being able to see it and be able to take pictures. And now its off to day three after I get some more sleep tonight so until then Aloha and Malaho.
