Tropic Thunder -
Where to begin? Let's start with the story line. The over all story arc was interesting and well thought out, it's been a while since I've seen a comedy that had a story line that was worth following or that keep me interested pretty much the whole way through.
As far as the action goes, it pleases all my guy parts to see all the explosions and body parts flying around. There really is something gratifying about seeing a pompous director stepping on a land mine and going to pieces.
When it comes to actors I have to say that Tom Cruse and Robert Downey Jr. really made the movie. I'm not sure what that movie would have been or if it would have been any good with out them. And it was good to see Tom Cruse play a part that wasn't one of his norms; he really fit the character and had me cracking up in my seat.
With that said we'll go to Jack Black who did a good job playing pretty much a reflection of him self. Much like Robert Downey Jr.'s character they were playing a mockery of them selves and did a fantastic job.
That brings us to Ben Stiller who out of the cast wasn't playing a type cast of him self, maybe because it was his baby that he couldn't bring him self to turn the mirror on himself. And even though you couldn't have the movie with out his character Ben's performance wasn't really that great, I mean anyone can spoof a action hero, it's really not that hard, and yet I felt that it was the weakest part of the movie. Because he was the director I'll have to give him credit in that area because it seemed like he was able to do that well so maybe well see less of him on screen and more behind the scenes.
All in all it was a funny and well done movie, I would recommend seeing it in the theaters and it might even be worth a rental in the future as well. I don't know if I'll end up buying it because it's not one that I would probably watch more the twice.
