So it is becoming clear that my new band kicks ass. I don't know if the music is good, but god damn I am having a good time. We laugh a lot and when we're not laughing we're actually creating music in a healthy environment. It's amazing how you can click with certain individuals on a personal level but then have a completely poisonous relationship when it comes to art and music. My last band struggled for 3 years to write 10 mediocre songs based entirely on conflict within the band. By the time the songs were written and considered complete i am reasonably sure that everyone in the band hated them. The songs were comprised of pieces of what everyone wanted crammed full of pieces that no one but one person wanted. I don't know if my new band is writing better songs, but we're confident, we're writing them faster, and we feel like we're making art instread of compromises. They songs aren't as challenging as far as musical theory goes, but then again, who listens to music for the theory? I am sure some people do but I am not one of them and I am not going to try to cater to them. I've been writing songs with my head for the last 8 years. It's fun to write with my cock... I mean heart. I'm finally in a band where everyone is going in the same direction and there is coherency between us that goes beyond talk and actually manifests itself as music. Hopefully, when we get some of it recorded, it will still get me excited and hopefully we can get others into it as well. Anyway, that's it.
