I'm a bit uncomfortable posting on here because it seems like most of the time blogs on sites like this are pretty narcisistic; however, to join any of the groups I am interested in on here I have to have an active blog. Now that my feelings on blogs like this are out of the way, let's rock.

I've been working my ass off at work for the last several weeks. Even though I love the summer I can't wait for it to be over so my job will chill the fuck out. My little brother and I along with a good friend of mine have started a new band and I really wish I was spending more time working on music and less time making the machine go ping. I was in a band with this same friend before with my wife and a few guys from work. We wrote a few songs over the course of about 3 years. It was fun but the writing process was based entirely on friction and the friction smoothed all of the emotion out of the music. Me and my friend have chemistry. Every one else in the band wanted it to sound different than we did. It wasn't that anyone was better than anyone else, it's just hard to be in a band where everyone has completely different influences. The compromises get exhausting.

The new band is actually fun. We've been together about 3 weeks and have already written about 7 songs. None of the songs are particularly special; however, things are being created instead of shot down. The band is based around a fender rhodes I got for my birthday from my wife instead of a guitar. At first i didn't know if it would work for me but I have found that I prefer playing rhodes to guitar. I can play the bass lines I hear in my head with my left hand and still have a free hand to do something interesting. There is something special about the sound of a rhodes too. We're actually writing songs that rock too which is a bit surprising to me simply because of the fact that the rhodes can so easily become cheesedick jazz in the hands of idiots. You have to be a badass jazz pianist with a good ear or a shit piano player to make good music with a rhodes. I am obviously a shit piano player, but it's fun as hell and it doesn't sound like a guitar which is a nice change.
