Said to me the other day, "When i grow up, I'm going to marry you."
Said, as a statement of fact that would brook no argument, by my 5yr old niece.
First thing she asked me was, "Why aren't you married?"
I answered as honestly as i could. I later realised she was testing the waters to see if i was going to be marrying anyone else. I tried to explain to her that she had no clue what marriage really is and i told her you can't marry your uncle. In the Appalacians maybe, but not in the rest of America.
She whispered this in my ear. "When i grow up, I'm going to marry you." as a secret because she did not want her parents to hear what she was telling me.
I, of course, was taken by surprise and i said quite loudly, "You can't marry your uncle."
She got real mad, "Hey! It's a secret! You can't tell secrets!"
My brother and sister-in-law found this amusing.
I do remember having lots of crushes on older people when i was her age. I think my first crush was the whole Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader squad. I believe, you must aim high.
