"Life is hard,
and so am I..."

A great man said that once. That is my mantra.

And the seasons they round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

I've decided that the "Elephant" album by The White Stripes is not really a great album, after all...

it's a fucking MASTERPIECE!

Is it Girlfriend? You know that's Richard Lloyd from Television on guitar on that album? biggrin
fil:
Haha. I take it the show rocked your socks?

I just managed to get a hold of all their videos. On top of being musically genius, they also have some really great videos. Except for maybe "Hotel Yorba", they don't do anything vanilla flavored.

"It's nice to be liked
But it's better by far to get paid
I know that most of the friends that I have
Don't really see it that way
But if you could give 'em each one wish
How much do you wanna bet?
They'd wish for success for themselves and their friends
And that would include lots of money
It would surely include...

Summer os 1993 Repro's home life favored him moving in with me for the summer and all we did was listen to guyville and ska and eat fried chicken and run people over on AOHell. People were like "Hey, what's this internet thing. BLAM!!!! Ouch, someone just ripped me a new asshole, Mary!" 24 hour on-call weirdness, bands sleeping on the living room floor, and endless endless "I flew in to Chicago at night"

Awesome. To be Young and Stupid in a College Town in the Summer.

pogues and drunken poets go down well together. dylan thomas=quite fun...although i admittedly have issues with poetry...which unfortunately my drunken roommate was tapping on...such as how i can't stand sylvia plath and i wrote an essay in tenth grade on her stylistic flaws...uuuuuggghhhh. but try explaining this to a drunk overly cheery roommate while you yourself are a bit drunk and grouchily half swearing in russian at her...

I saw the Stripes in Berkeley the other day. Mr. White did a tribute to Johnny Cash. It was well received and a very good, stylized show.

No encore though. That kind of peeved me. They need to spruce up their shows ... or at least the ones they do in the Bay Area.

I went to karaoke night on Saturday at the Greek Theatre and ended up having a couple of revelatory moments. It started out uninspiringly with the rockabilly-lite schtick of the Rev. Horton Heat. Thankfully, their set only lasted about 25 minutes so they were off just as they started to get boring. Next came the Pogues-lite schtick of the Dropkick Murphys and their 16-year...

Umm.... I don't mind admitting that I like some mainstream movies... but of the 8 movies I mentioned, 5 would have no chance in hell of playing at a multiplex. I would say my taste in movies is much more indie and out-of-the-mainstream than my music taste. I guess it seems otherwise from this small snapshot of picks... shocked

HEAVEN

Everyone is trying to get to the bar.
The name of the bar, the bar is called Heaven.
The band in Heaven plays my favorite song.
They play it once again, they play it all night long.

Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.

There is a party, everyone is there.
Everyone will leave...

-did you ever read that short story by stephen king called "you know they've got a hell of a band"?

i don't know why, but for some reason that Byrne quote made me think of it.
honkeykong:
-you're right because the name of the town in the story was "rock and roll heaven"
