I suppose Im showing my age, but whatever happened to the days when people who worked in what we used to call record stores actually knew something about music? I went to a very trendy, sorta alternative music store yesterday and asked if they had the newly released DVD of the D.A. Pennebaker Ziggy Stardust film. First, the male clerk (all hipped out in his latest rock star fashions) tried to look up Ziggy Stardust like it was a real persons name. When I told him it was David Bowie, he kinda looked at me with a confused look and shrugged like, whatever. Then, when he couldnt find it, he turned me over to the female clerk, also all rocked out, who tried to convince me that the CD soundtrack was actually the DVD. When I told her that, no thats just the music soundtrack, I want the movie, she also seemed confused. I bet they know all about the new Linkin Park album, though! I left empty handed and ended up finding the DVD at Barnes & Noble at the mall (gotta give corporate America credit where its due).

HIT LIST:
In between spins of the new White Stripes (which I saw Rolling Stone gave 5 starsthe kiss of death), Im rocking the Sahara Hotnights albumear candy.

REAL LIFE:
One interesting element of keeping this journal is it drives home the monotony of my existence. Lets see, this weekendbought some CDs/DVDs; watched some movies; ate a couple of nice meals; drank some Martinis. Sounds like every weekend lately. I gotta do something different. Im going to Chicago next weekend so maybe thatll be something fun. Or maybe just another excuse to buy music, eat & drink. Oh well, I suppose if I gotta be in a rut, this aint a bad one.

FAVE SG OF THE DAY:
Because she mentioned both Lisa Marie Presley and Cher in the same journal post:

Wow! good promise smile You're right about the record stores - heck we don't even get proper 'alternative' record stores over here. I order most my stuff online tongue

Ha! Record store clerks do suck nowadays. The closest I've come to competence is when I make a trip to Santa Cruz ... a lot of the record shops there are pretty egalitarian and know a little bit of everything.

'Course, if I were a clerk, I'm sure I'd piss all the new kids off: "sigh, why are you listening to this crap. Why don't you take home a copy of ... Appetite for Destruction?"
