The Diagnoses:
1.) I'm slightly anemic. I have to take iron supplements my whole life, and greatly increase my red meat intake (so, from none to a lot).
2.) My tonsils are infected.
3.) I have a nasty sinus infection.
4.) I go under the knife for a tonsillectomy Nov. 11. skull

The Drugs:
1.) Enough antibiotics to last me for a month. And I have to take every last one of them.
2.) A steroid nose spray for the sinus infection.
3.) Not really a drug... but a pill nonetheless... iron supplements.
4.) Heavy narcotic pain killers for up to three weeks after surgery.

The Details:
Yeah. Since I'm slightly anemic, they will not do the surgery until my blood count is normal. I started the iron supplements today, and I have to eat TONS of red meat in the meantime. I had a steak tonight, and my poor tummy was so confused (I'm not really a vegetarian, but I *very* rarely eat red meat). I get blood work done on the 6th to determine if my blood count is high enough for surgery, then it's under the knife on the 11th.

For a "risky" and "very very painful" surgery that will leave me useless for about a week, and very sick and weak for at least two.

I'm so glad I finally know what's wrong with me and steps are finally being taken to solve the multiple issues (the slight anemia is causing my fatigue and headaches). However... I'm sooooo not looking forward to the surgery and aftermath. frown

supernovice:
tonsillectomies are not that bad, surgically - pretty simple. they are, however, very painful to recover from as an adult. I had my tonsils removed as an infant, I'm sure it sucked then too, but I don't remember a thing. guess I am lucky in that respect.
the anemia is a tough break, especialy with all else that you have going on. I'm sorry to hear all that and sincerely wish you the best. good luck and keep us posted - and if you need anything, lemme know and I'll jump a cross-country flight and be there in 6-8 hours depending on layovers...
