On my way home from school yesterday, it hit me that I live in California. Sometimes it's still hard to believe. It seems like such a far away place... but it's not, it's home. But it's so far from where I came...
Growing up in the deep south with an alcoholic, racist, partying, young cop for a dad and an uneducated, convenience store working mom... always on welfare, living in a trailer, wearing cousins' hand-me-downs... back then, and for many many years afterward, places like California were far away places on a map that I never would have believed I'd live in.
My dad is now a sober, somber man who loves everyone but is restricted to a wheelchair for the rest of his life and a soon-to-be multimillionaire. My mom is a recent college graduate working as an RN. And I live in far away, sunny, glamorous and rich California (not to say I'm glamorous and/or rich)...
It's really crazy how much things can change in just 24 years.
It may sound not so, but this is a happy entry, and I'm really proud and glad to be where I am
