the shaman is always the least religious man in the village. he is surrounded by mystics, men who hold half-truths close to heart, who see the world as a nearly-completed puzzle pocked with missing pieces here and there, that the picture could be complete with the simple acquesition of more knowledge to fill those gaps. Men who do not yet understand that they do not understand, and though that realization, often called wisdom, may yet come to them, they will be so hopelessly tied to a world of understood agreements that it would be perhaps impossible for them to break free.

I don't like Nostradamus, probably because I don't like thinking about the end of the world and when people discuss him they are ultimately discussing the end of the world.
