It's thursday & I need to jump in the shower in the next hour. I'll be going out tonight to Bourbon Street, it's ladies night from what I hear. It's my friend Kenny's B-Day, he just turned 25. So we are going out to celebrate, should be fun. Although I'm starting to get sick, nothing serious. A little sneezing & runny nose, a bit of a headache. I didnt get much sleep yesterday. Got hom from work at around 8:30 am slept til about noon & had to get up for a class I needed to attend. Got done by 3:30 & headed to hooters for some food & 2 beers. Came home took a shower before work & did not want to go at all. Got a chance to sit for almost 2 hours & I took advantage & got some sleep.
So at 7:10 this morning when we thought we'd be getting sent home soon, we got a call instead. Sucked but it actually turned out to be a real good call. We got a call for a seizure, which was the least of this guy's problem. We walked in this guy's room & you could hear the fluid in his lungs. Which is NEVER a good thing if you walk in & you could hear that. So we gave this guy oxygen & headed down to the ambulance. My partner went ahead & gave this guy an IV. I put this guy on a higher percentage of oxygen. Ended up giving this guy medicine to get the fluid out of his lungs. No sooner did I give this guy the medicine he started sweating like hell. Well his oxygen saturation in his blood was a little low. Let's just say it ended up getting worse on the way to the hospital. It dropped from 88% (which isn't good) down to like 69%. So I had to force oxygen into his lungs with a mask over his face. It improved some, but he got much worse once we got him into the hospital. He went from having a pulse of 104 down to 54 & his oxygen saturation dropped as low as 30%. He was basically ready to walk through the gates of heaven. We got a doctor & a nurse in the room right away. We helped them get this patient intubated & giving this guy drugs. The IV my partner gave this guy got ripped out from so many people being in the room. So my partner gave him another one. All in all it was a good call, the guy was ok. He was put on a breathing machine. I get off usually at 8 am & by the time we got done with the call, we rolled in the garage at almost 10. That's the closest I've come to getting a cardiac arrest at work.
