Blog Homework - Gendered Secrets

You had to pick this topic, well this sucks for me because I turned in my man card a long time ago and have not been getting the latest updates. I hang out with some ladies but I don't get the full scope there either. To put it frankly, I don't buy the essentialist nonsense that women and men are inherently different, they are just raised differently. I have seen both women and men cried for thinking they are fat. I known a man who contemplated suicide over a spurned lover, hysterical one might say. I had a very drunk aunt who would grope me in ways that I was not comfortable with at all, especially since I was underage of 18 at the time. I know some guys whose beauty regiments would put most women to shame.

What I am trying to say is, in my 22 years on this earth I have found no group be that different from the other. I was just listening examples from real life that demonstrate gender means little to nothing and there are plenty of examples that brake the narrative of men are from Mars and women are from Venus. You simply have to look and listen.

Now does this mean there are societal norms that are different for both, definitely! And most people are sheep for following those norms. If there is one norm I think women might not know about is the lack intimacy in men's lives that make it harder for them to make friends later and later in life. Men are suppose to make friends while working or drinking, and the men who follow that recipe are sad folk because those are shallow relationships.

It is bull stuff like this that made decide to give up being a man and just be Rorschach. I rather my achievements be credited to my name then to my gender. I once had a women say to me "You are pretty smart, for a man" that hurt a lot and push me closer to giving up on gender. The second was countless times I was told to "Man up" as way to silence my criticism or suppress thoughts that may challenge current power structures. That is what manning up is all about, being silent and taking it. What pride is there in that? Of being a thoughtless and quiet dummy? Other men and some women only say the phrase "Man up" to men they want silenced for challenging their authority. The last nail in coffin of my manhood was when I had a boss as part of landscaping crew bet money to grope the ass of our employer while she was not looking. I of course refused. Then my boss ostracized me from the crew and later came up some bullshit reason to fire me because I was not pervert like him. If being a man means I got be on same team as him, then no thanks!

Then again, what do I know? I am just some ink blot on piece of paper.
