I was going to write an explanation for the astute MeNotYou for this pic and put it the pic description in the photo set area. But instead I'll write it here!

Sun Yat Sen is considered the father of modern China and is generally considered a hero in the vein of George Washington. He is recognized as the first Chinese patriot who came before Mao. As the Chinese resistance leader, he was the one who is recognized as the overthrower of the last ruling dynasty. He not only is well-respected in China, but his face is on much of the coins and currency of Taiwan!

However, everyone knows who he was. This monument is dedicated to those who came after Sun, all the fallen martyrs who died in the cause of freeing China from both despots and Japanese invaders and invaluably helped the Chinese people to move forward.
