Hey SG,
Sorry it's been a while. This is going to be more rant then update. I'm off work today as I am having issues with my legs being very painful at the moment (i have spastic diplegia for those that don't know) There has never really been an issue with my time off work due to this condition for the 8 years i've been there until I got a new line manager this summer.
I don't even see my line manager on a day to day basis as he isnt head of my department. When i do call in sick I phone up my department head and let him know that i wont be in as well as phoning the office just to say i wont be in either and again this has been fine for years.
But now I feel i'm being bullied. Last week a one of the guys i work with starting feeling ill on monday and left midday, he was then off sick for the next 2 days he came back thursday and was still a bit offish but was in for the rest of the week. Friday i start feeling sick and like the guy i work with i left early and went home, was sick and felt crappy for the rest of the weekend. I came in Monday nothing was said. I felt fine. last night I could feel my legs bad and could sleep for most of the night due to the cramps and the usual leg pains i get. I knew i wouldnt be able to drive today and so about 8am I texted my department head and one of the guys i work with to let them know i wouldnt be coming in. Now work starts at 8:30am but 10 mins after i sent the text i got a text back from one of the guys saying that I was to phone our line manager ASAP. Work doesn't start for another 20mins but I phone my line manager anyway and he starts quizing me down the phone as to why i'm not coming in and that i am to report to him first thing tomorrow to explain today and explain why i left early on friday. I don't like having to explain myself to my line manger. He isnt a people person shall we say. But i thought he has a fair point. I should have contacted him first but when i phoned the office at 8:30am to let everyone else know i wont be in I had a chat to the guy who was off sick for 2 days and half of monday if he had the same issues with our line manger as me. He hadn't. Infact he said that he has never had to speak to him at all about sick leave or anything else. So why is he giving me grief?!? I was so upset by this that I got intouch with our HR people to find out were i stand. They said someone will phone me at some point today but i am yet to hear from anyone. I don't see why i should get picked on for having a condition. mad

Some people just like easy targets. Explain yourself and don't back down. There is no way they can actually do anything if you are off due to an existing condition, it would be totally illegal.

Also in my experience HR people become HR people because they are rubbish at being just people. If it doesn't have a rule and a limit they don't understand. Hassle them, don't wait for an answer.
