I went to Chichester cathedral today to watch a lecture by John Shelby Spong about the bible.
now I before today I had no idea who John Shelby Spong was and I had no religious interest in the bible.
I AM NOT A CHIRSTIAN!
This man was an American bishop and he took the bible apart, and I mean apart!
it was fantastic. it was like watching 'DOGMA' for the first time.
Joseph was probably a made up character.
every main character seems to go into the wilderness for 40 days/years
every main character parts/walks on water
every main character gets betrayed by someone close.
his main point being that the story of Moses is the story of Jesus is the story of Elijah, they are just repeats of the same story past down over the years but the message is the same. to have faith, to live life and to love one another.
"I could not believe that anyone who has read this book would be so foolish as to proclaim that the Bible in every literal word was the divinely inspired, inerrant word of God. Have these people simply not read the text? Are they hopelessly misinformed? Is there a different Bible? Are they blinded by a combination of ego needs and naivete?"
