Would this sort of thing happen to a condo developer who had purchased the land that new amenities for the bid would be built on? I think not. He'd be paid out very handsomely, thank you very much. He sure as shit wouldn't be taken to court by a large organisation claiming that the land were theirs by some sort of divine right, which is essentially what's happening here.
Good on the guy, I hope he sticks to his guns and, if he loses his domain, I hope to God he gets well remunerated for it. Think of the precedent this would set otherwise!
