Random thought dump:
* My birthday was excellent. I expected a bad day at work as my boss decided to take a day off (and the crap he so deftly deals with invariably falls onto my less adept shoulders when he's not there). Luckily though, things went pretty smoothly. I even had one of the office-hotties swing by to wish me a happy birthday and flirt a little (that was nice!)
* Birthday dinner was amazing. Great food, awesome company, entertaining cats and lots of delicious gin! Brilliant! Amazoe = Amazing Zoe!
* I've been informed that I'm allowed to consider everyday between yesterday (which was my actual birthday) and Saturday (which is when I'm having my birthday celebration) as part of my 'birthday'! Yay...four-day birthday!
* I love my new Ubuntu interface. I've done away with the usual icon/menu/pointer setup and now the only thing showing on my desktop is my wallpaper. Everything, including searching for and downloading torrent files, sending and receiving Twitter posts, launching browser bookmarks and opening specific files and/or folders is all done via keyboard input. I love it so much that sometimes I just navigate around, not really doing anything, just enjoying the interface!
* I'm toying with the idea of starting a new blogging exercise. My idea is to get a little drunk or a little stoned (just a little) and head out into the world. Once I'm out and about, I'll wander around, people-watching and thinking, until an idea or observation worth blogging about strikes me. Then I'll find an obliging shop somewhere and update the blog from a display computer (one that has an Internet connection, of course!). I'm ashamed to admit this idea was inspired by a scene in 'Californication' where Hank Moody posts a blog from a Mac in a department store.
* I'm starting to resent the amount of extraneous work my uni course has included every week. Aside form working on our major, capstone projects, we have set tasks to accomplish for class. These include critiquing peers work (which is kind of mutually useful so I don't mind it too much), set readings (both novels and articles) and scouring the culture lift-outs from various newspapers. All of these things, when scheduled around a working week, leave very little time for the writing of the 10 000 word project we're to submit at the end of the semester. Call me crazy, but it seems dumb that I have to push my actual writing aside in order to read the 'Spectrum' liftout every week!
* Tez and Dah and I are moving soon. The girls looked at a nearby apartment yesterday and it seems to have everything we want and need as well as being perfectly located and (from what I saw in the online pictures) quite attractive. Fingers crossed for our application!
I think that's about it. For those of you coming, I'm looking forward to seeing you on Saturday. For everyone else, thanks for any birthday wishes you may have sent and I hope to see you soon!
