i don't write happy poems
i don't write about america or sunshine, i rarely write of love or rhyme

it's not me

i haven't had love that shines
i don't get the storybook
kind of dreams
i don't share in these whimsy flights of fancy
i don't grow gossamer wings

i write poems about the dull pain of the heart that throbs under the tons of grey cracking concrete of life

i spin verse about the tiny frequent pleasures and the simple perfume of fresh blacktop and cigarette smoke

i write about the little loves that grace the day to day and the lust in fleeting and shared glances

i don't write to change the world

i write to show the world to other people through my eyes
