A river filled with thought fish.

People are strange. If one person tells a completely untrue story in public he is ridiculed as and idiot or a liar or as being crazy. But if millions of people start telling the same untrue story it is a matter of faith. Where is the line. At what point do people stop saying "man thats a ridicules fairy tale" and begin trying to convince people that it is all a matter of faith or that god works in mysterious ways. Why did people suddenly decide that ancient myths are now truth. (see gilgimesh and other sumerian myths)

--------------------------------------------------------

Many many many people have addressed this issue before. And I will again.
What makes a person think he is more qualified to study or ask questions about a subject. This is a general question. The answer is schooling and study. And what do you study? You study facts and research or conduct you own research. You simply prove something to yourself using a reason-founded and reality based theory. Why is it then that the religious people go nuts when we hold their religion to the same standards that you hold say, the way the toaster heats up bread. We can both say and prove that a toaster will toast bread. I can say trust me it will toast the bread. And then i can toast some bread. And i can prove that its heat that toasts the bread. If i unplug the toaster and put the bread in it, the bread will not get toasted. Why is it so hard for people to do the same with their religion. I know i would want to put that much ever into anything i planed on taking that serious. It just baffles me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A friend brought up, in relations to god and the evil in the world, that this is provably a dog eat dog world. Survival of the fittest. What difference is there between between the violence in nature and the violence of man. The difference is the effect it has. And the necessity of the violence. In nature, as in animals and plants, it is about survival. Where as in humans. It is not about survival. And there is not a purpose for it. Some of us humans are evil. And some of us are crazy. My question is about the point of that. And why would a god allow such things. And my answer is this. If god is out there. God can do nothing about it.
If god is out there and can do something about it, why should i care about god? God obviously does not care about man.
There is no good reason for rape and murder and some of the other evils of man. It not about survival nor is it preservation of a species. And this leads me right into something else i had in my brain.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Human evil is a product of one thing and one thing only. Humans being evil. Not everyone will go rape and murder of course. But it does happen and it is completely and thoroughly that human's fault.
And as bad as it is there is no way to define bad unless you know what good is. And it goes the same the other way around.
When we see the bad in the world it does make the good look that much better. But why not just give us the good?
Maybe a species needs challenges and obstacles to advance and to avoid becoming stagnant. But there are much better ways to challenge us, to keep things from getting bored and to ensure progress, then rape and murder and various other evils.
They are not necessary nor are they needed in any society.
Now that does not prove or disprove anything. But it does raise the question. If there is a god out there, that god lets humans evolve on their own right? I would like to think that any god out there worth worshipping would put a stop to those things if it could. But it can't, if it is even there.
Which means that if a god is there it does not have any control over us. So why bother.
There is no need to worship at all. You could say that maybe that god would still judge us. It would make the decision about weather or not our afterlife is pleasant. Even if that is the case what reason do i have for religion? If we where to use reason and god in the same sentence: If i lead a good life reason would suggest that i would get a good afterlife. With no religion needed nor worship of a god.
My position is this. I believe that there is no god. But i also believe that if I am wrong, reason leads me to also believe that it will not matter because I will ether have a good afterlife or i will have a bad one and that means god is a pretty crappy entity for damming a good person.
Any argument for or against a god is stupid. Nether side can prove a damn thing. I can use logic and probability all day long but in the end i still only have a guess that there is no god. And a believer can do the same.
But we can, in my mind at least, prove that there is no point. Even in cases where 'god/religion" has changed people's lives. I cannot prove that god had nothing to do with that. But i can show you case after case where good phycology has changed peoples lives for the better. that does not sway the god:fact or fiction argument in ether direction. It only proves that you can help people with hope. And hope does not equal faith nor does it have anything to do with religion. In those cases where people 'found god', they really just found hope. Hope that used religion to break through. Religion was use as a tool. Like you would use a hammer to drive in a nail.
And again i say that that does not prove or disprove anything because you can give people hope in a million different ways.
All that proves it that god is not necessary. And that is one more reason why I am mostly an atheist and I would not say i am fully and completely a non-believer.

I apologize for this if it is completely incoherent. Sometimes i ramble to much. I hope this makes some sort of sense

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And lastly. Here is a long but good video. It is a lecture by Sam Harris and it is about 15minutes long but is well worth the time.

Thank you for the Mother's Day comment.
I have so many opinions and comments on the issues you've been posting, but if I start, I will never finish. My parents left it up to me really young to make my own studies and observations on faith, no matter what religion it is. My thoughts on the issue are brooooooooooaaaaaaaaad. It kind of drives me crazy and keeps me up at night.
