Just paid in advance for my tickets to the Bolshoi Ballet next week. La Selfide..yummy. I've managed to get three front row stall seats and I'm taking two dear friends of mine. (Two girls, as I suspec t you guessed). We'll have supper afterwards at a great little restaurant near the theatre where you can get genuine Russian cusine. It will probably be my only
fun time as I have a very busy schedule.
As I've said before, I lived in Moscow for several years, so it's a bit like a second home for me. I still get a buz when the plane comes into land there and then I drive in alojng the main highway to the city centre. So much has changed though since I first started going there. It's totally transformed from the drab colourless landscape to brightly coloured adverising hoardings and a brand new skyline of luxuary hotels and apartment blocks. But the Red Square is more or less the same, apart from the Russian Federation flag flying over the Kremlin instead of the infamous red and black and gold hammer and sickle.
It's hard to believe that in a country where the majority of the population live below the poverty line Moscow is now one of the most expensive cities in the world. I should have kept the flat I owned there, it 's now worth a fortune.
I'm gonna take lots of pics while I'm there and promise to post them when I get back.
But they won't be onion churches and all the usual tourist snaps. I will try to show you the real Russia behind the bunting. Maybe a little something close to the genuine From Russia with Love. Wish you could all come with me. Imagine a mass SG burlesque on Red Square. I also think plain_ol_jane should shoot her debut set there...but that's something between her and me. Nastarovia my lovlies.
