So another Olympic Games is about to end. Whlist it's provided me with plenty of entertainment and even thrills over the past couple of weeks, I'm once again left with a lot of negative thoughts about the event.
I can't be bothered to look up the exact text, but I'm certain there's something about taking part is more important than winning. Only the naive would believe that's true any more. Now it's win at almost any cost for the sake of money and unhealthy nationalism. I guess there's nothing wrong with national pride, but it somehow loses its currency when so many athletes are wearing vests of convenience.
Having said all that it's still a great show and it's so sexy to watch the human body being twisted, contorted and pushed to the limits. But I'd be extremely happy if they never played a national anthem again.
