One of my rats died on Sunday. I was really tired when I came home on Saturday night/Sunday morning so I didn't really check on them so I don't know if she was sick then.
When I got up Sunday morning my girlfriend said Zoopa looked funny and she couldn't walk well.
I rushed into the ratroom and she indeed was having lot's of trouble moving about. She was very cold so I held her in my hands trying to warm her. She didn't try to bite me like normal, she hated me and would always let me know with a nip, so I knew something was up.
I placed her in a dish towel and brought her with me in the car. I had to be somewhere so I decided to bring her with me instead of leaving her to die alone. She was gasping really hard for awhile and then she panicked struggling for her last breath. There was nothing I could do. I was strong and didn't cry...so my girlfriend had someone to be strong for her.
We buried her at the edge of a field underneath a white birch tree.
The two females that shared her cage space miss her very much. They both groomed me lot's during play time, something they would only do once in a great while.
On the bright side Zoopa is now with her tiny babies who passed away before their time.
