My Grandaddy died at about 1:30 yesterday afternoon. It was a beautiful day. My mother said he just went to sleep and stopped breathing. He didn't struggle. He didn't gasp. He just went.

The plan is to hold a Compline Service tomorrow evening. The Compline is my favourite Order from the Book of Common Prayer.

It begins, "The Lord Almighty grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end. Amen."

I don't think anything could be more appropriate.

I'll leave you with a picture of my Grandaddy, Benny Elmore, talking with Mrs. Moomaw (of the family that maintains Shrine Mont.) Shrine Mont was his favourite place in this world... and, as you may have noticed from previous entries, mine as well. See that he smiled. See that he was happy when this picture was taken, and not just a small broken man in a hospital bed.



The Compline ends, "Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Let us bless the Lord.
