When I was in high school, we once had a carnival. Each class had a booth, to raise money. I was a freshman, and I don't remember what our booth was. The juniors had a kissing booth,
and one of the people who was going to be in it was Nancy, the best looking girl in school. My sister, who was older, and already graduated was a good friend of Nancy, and told me she would get her to plant a good one on me!
As the date approached, kids were talking more and more about the kissing booth, and some of my classmates were already razzing me about the prospect of ME kissing the best looking girl in school. I don't know why some us are, naturally, figures of fun for others. My Mom used to say, the more people kid you, the more they love you. But that is bovine excreta. Nobody gathers round the quarterback and chants "Billy's got a girrrrrrl friend!" Those who grew up being ridiculed (and we are many) know what I'm talking about.
I was mortified,! I could see the ridicule snowballing. I ended up not going.
One of the great things about this benevolent matriarchy of S.G.s is that it allows everybody to tell beautiful women how obviously beautiful they are, and to know them as fellow humans. To some of us, that means a LOT!
In the last few days, I have met some wonderful, kind, and gorgeous S.G. and hopefuls. A couple of you even requested MY friendship

It may be speculation to say I speak for many of us, so I'll speak only for myself when I say that I felt that sting a lot as an adolescent. I was the proverbial Ugly Duckling well into my late-teens (ok... My early 20's) and I still hear phantom taunts from time to time. This community is so good for people like us.
