@skisby both NPR and Spotify post a thing called New Music Fridays. And NPR often does pre-release live shows called Tiny Desk Concerts - WXPN out of Philadelphia PA hosts Free Fridays At Noon live shows too. Those are my main sources. I volunteered for WXPN a few years ago. Met many superstars when they were still street buskers 😎

Yeah, I guess they (recording industry) wanted a “global” release day to make charting easier, make sense. Just shows how big an impact Spotify has had. I listen to their new music one sometimes & the Discover one regularly (same with NPR music) but never noticed it updated on Friday’s the last 6-7 years 😳🤦♂️
