Cafe Hon just announced theyāll serve their last fare tonight. Iāve enjoyed their home cooked food for decades, a plethora of themed dishes based on popular movies or vacation spots, and met the most wonderfully eclectic people there from movie stars grabbing a quick bite between shooting scenes while filming (Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig during The Invasion) ā¦met Frank Zappa and the inimitable movie director John Waters (Hairspray, Cry-Baby) there, dozens of glad-handing politicians, and a whole cadre of local and traveling artists and musicians looking for real down-home conversation and a good meal. Iām crushed! It was on my bucket list to get back up there this summer š³
No official word if the new owners will keep the fascinating decor including life sized mannequins of Bette Midler in full āHonā regalia and Elvis in a white tuxedo that someone kept placing assorted tropical leis around his neck , tons of local Baltimore popular tchotchkes like pink flamingos and āHon wigsā
