Enjoyed a brisk morning hike along some abandoned trails behind a old drive-in movie theatre that’s for sale near me. It’s been abandoned too since a hurricane twisted the steel beams that made the huge movie screen, which itself is now in tatters, it’s aluminized reflective thick canvas once delighted all ages with fantasies and dramas now sadly wafting long silvery shreds in the breeze. And, as I looked down something else glinted back at me through the morning fog.
I’m not totally sure what this is. I understand its function — crank the little red wooden handle like a manual eggbeater and the tiny basket spins very fast at an odd angle. A frother or mixer of sorts?

I’ve never seen one before. I believe it’s old, maybe 1940s? Made of chrome plated stamped brass and steel that is surprisingly heavy for its size - the brass basket is about 2-1/2” for comparison.
I’m seeking a metallurgist’s advice for redoing the chrome plating, it’s fully functional as is.

👉 sidebar: my old best Uncle (deceased now) immigrated from Holland to US as a kid. His favorite party drink was… hold on… a raw egg and a teaspoon of sugar mixed into a rocks glass full of bourbon. Yeah, I know 🤢!!! Anyway, could this gadget have been used for that? To froth up the raw egg?🤔
