Recently, a new acquaintance (someone I thought I might become buddies with) called me up on the phone crying. She's going through a divorce. Her husband failed a drug test and was kicked out of the Navy and now he's going nuts. He came by their place and vandalized everything in sight. Then, he told her he was going to kill her and hide her where no one could find them. Well, I told her to get her ass over to my place, instead of sticking around her place waiting for him to kill her.

Upon arrival, I saw that her son was not with her (she has a ten month old son). She had left him with her mother. As she began to open the door, the car's alarm went off and we went through a lot of trouble trying to kill that. Then, I took her inside and gave her some numbers I'd worked my ass off getting. These were numbers for obtaining a restraining order and a place for women to hide who are in fear for her life. She called the second number. Instead saying what anyone would say about how her husband had threatened her life, she went on and on to them about his problems with money and lying and getting kicked out of the Navy. I had to stop her mid-sentence and say "Hun, they don't really care about stuff like that. What's going to catch their attention are three things: he threatened your life, he's on cocaine, and you have a baby." She finally told them that and they gave her a higher ups phone number to call, telling her that person would be there after 2 PM.

So, we sat and waited. While we waited, an ex-boyfriend of hers called with a phone number for a lawyer who could work for her fast. It would cost her $200 right off the bat. She's a waitress. I have no idea why she didn't even try the pro bono lawyer's number I gave her. Then, she started making small talk with me and explained how she wanted to start dating again and was interested in her best friend's boyfriend. I was appalled, but I think I hid it well. All I really said was that it might not be the best time to start dating....seeing as she hadn't even filed for divorce yet and her husband was out to kill her.

Then, she started getting emotional again. She told me she had been putting off the divorce because she was afraid they would test her for drugs. Apparently, she has been smoking pot everyday....around her baby. Oh, and there was that time a few weeks ago when she was hanging out with her friends and they all got high on ecstasy. I try not to be judgmental, but I felt myself get hot with anger. Who gets high around their kid? That's just really fucking low.

I told her not to worry about any of this, but I think I was secretly hoping she'd fail her drug test and they'd give her kid to a foster family. I was being as friendly and helpful as possible and then...on the way to the door....she said how she had always been John's (my guy's) favorite model and how she wished she'd taken him when he'd wanted to date her. I knew she was probably just jealous that she'd wound up with a psychopath and I'd wound up with the nice guy. But, it still sort of stung. Why would she tell me that right then except to hurt me? IDK.

I'm not even really venting this, but I just feel like this needs to be said. WTF ever happened to people being normal on a moral spectrum? Seems like people are either fucking horses while snorting crack they killed a five year old for or they're saying if you like time alone you're probably talking to Satan. Needless to say, I'm no longer hoping to become buddies with this girl anymore. I actually hope I don't see her again. I'd like to feel like I helped her, but I doubt I did. I'm also questioning whether or not her husband really did all those things she said he did. Seriously, wtf is wrong with people?

what a fucking nightmare, she deserves her husband by the sound of things and with a bit of luck the child will eventually find its way to a good foster or adopted home b4 it comes too any harm. the world is full of crazy people, its no way near as bad but last year after years of my wife slagging off women who use their kids as weapons against their ex partners decided that i couldnt see my kids, why, well because i wouldnt pay her child support in cash i wanted it to go through the bank so it was traceable as im self employed. took 3 months and a lot of solicitors bills b4 i saw the kids again. got an order now tho so she cant fuck me around again smile

good luck, hope she stays out of your life
