I begin the blog with...

Gah! That got cut-off, and I'm too lazy to fix it, so here's the direct link: http://xkcd.com/717/
"....go go gadget video camera. Go go gadget cup." -- Mouseover text is always a good bonus punchline.

Work's been ridiculous lately. A couple coworkers having babies screwed up my schedule for a few weeks, and now it's just stupid for inexplicable reasons. It probably doesn't help that I'm doing a bunch of extra-curriculars either, like being the department's rep on the environmental committee, plus union shop steward, plus taking CPR/First Aid courses on shifts diametrically opposite my usual ones. I have no time to practice the piano. No time for riding my new bike.

But also, no time to think about the ex that dumped me from across the world a month ago, so there's a plus.

So anyway, I worked until 11.30 PM Sunday and had to be back at work for 8.30 AM Monday to start the training. I popped some melatonin to help me sleep that night, and that was just a short while after splitting a bottle of wine with someone. For those of you who don't know, melatonin is a natural sleep hormone produced in the body for which you can get over-the-counter supplements to help out. It is also known to enhance dreams and, in some cases, nightmares. I always end up laughing at nightmares, and usually know I'm in one while it's going on, but last night... Wow. The short ones are always the freakiest.

I actually felt myself falling asleep, which was weird enough, and the dream started out in my room with everything the same. Then I could hear people outside the door of my basement suite. And then they got into my suite, but I couldn't wake up. Then light came on through the cracks of my doors and I could see shadows of people and still hear them, but I couldn't wake up (evidently with my eyes open anyway.) Then some skinny guy in a trench coat who must have been 6'5" came into my room and was slowly walking towards my bed. He had a fedora too, and round white glasses. I kept trying to make a sound, but I was paralyzed right down to the lungs... until the last second. I finally managed to suck in a big gulp of dream-air and shock myself awake.

I was kind of annoyed, since that happened right after I finally managed to fall asleep (after trying for 2 hours.) And then I woke up another 2 hours later because I dreamt that I woke up and saw the clock reading 8:40 and actually jolted myself awake (since I was supposed to get up at 7.) It was actually 5:50. Then I had to go to the washroom, so I did, planning on going right back to bed... Only to get the first nosebleed in like 2 years? It lasted about 4 minutes, but was enough to wake me up. I basically just laid in bed listening to music until 7 rolled around. For the love of fuck I hate my sleeping habits.

Anyway, what are some dream-time adventures or misadventures you've had before?

I leave you with... MOTHER MOTHER:

First, a good song for anyone to purge with, Burning Pile:

This song makes me "geek out" (to steal the words of Praesepe), mostly because the entire thing is about questioning/mocking standard masculine insecurities, and it stole the words right out of my brain. Phallic symbols make me laugh. And yeah, I posted it on my last blog. Worth listening to twice:

Otherwise I'm pretty useless and I suspect that any social success I have is pure luck.

Human condition, baby!

What kind of restaurant? What kind of catering? I was in hospitality for years, and I love hearing about people's ideas.
