Part I: My New Spirit Animal

This time of year, there are pelicans living around the area I was at camping this past week. They're social birds, and tend to be in flocks. There was a flock of nine that I saw on one of my first days at the lake, and a couple other groups of six, but every day there was a solitary one who swam around on his own close to the boat piers and the beach. Just by himself. Occasionally, another pelican would go to him, but he'd ignore them and just keep to himself. The flocks would land and swim out deeper into the lack, but he just consistently stayed in the shallows, swimming back and forth.

He didn't get close enough to touch or anything, but probably got as close as twenty-five feet from me a few times. If I walked onto a dock he was swimming around, he'd just casually swim out and around to another one, either unconcerned or uncaring.

They don't mate for life, so I'm not sure what was affecting him.

Lonesome and adrift, kindred to me. I nicknamed him Peregrine.

Part II: Me, the epitomical hopeless romantic.

My post in "What makes you a hopeless romantic?" in the Hopeless Romantic group:

---
I keep falling hard for girls who either aren't interested, or are taken already.

+ When I fall for one, I get tunnel vision romance and don't respond to the ones who are interested in me.

+ I ignore immediate opportunities in favour of less likely longterm potentials.

+ I spend way too much freakin' time and money even when I don't have a chance.

+ I'm more willing than I should be to settle for friendship if I can't get her otherwise.

= Hopeless.
---

To add onto that, I do have a bad tendency to fall for bartenders/servers, which is rarely adviseable. It probably took me at least 4-5 times of learning the hard way to learn that and accept it.

But I did meet a new person at a bar last night, and she doesn't work there! It was a strange situation and I'm not sure of the result. Partly because it was unexpected, and I didn't get a chance to ask for her number or anything, but the encounter was interesting nonetheless.

I was outside the bar having a smoke, and she came out and asked for a lighter. We were both on our own at that moment, and after she said thanks we were on the cusp of starting a conversation -- I'm pretty sure we were both about to say something and neither of us wandered away -- when some drunk douchebag came up and started talking to us, interrupting us before we even started.

Anyway, he was being all weird so I stuck around even though I was done my cigarette and the two of us sort of managed to talk a little bit between the dbag's ramblings.

Her name is Chalice, and she told me she had a dream the other night that she punched a panther in the face. Awesome.

To sum up the rest of what I had time to learn about her: She got the scrapes on her elbow from falling off a bike, riding doubles with no brakes. She was at a stagette and they didn't know that the bike had no breaks since they found it abandoned.

She must be a regular at that bar since she seemed to know a lot of the staff. She thanked me for sticking around until we could escape the creep, then we went our separate ways inside the bar and I didn't get to talk to her again. But she did see me when she was leaving and wished me a good night.

That's about it. If I see her again I'll find out if I managed to leave as good of an impression.

Part III: The Hand that Feeds, Stripped remix.

I love it. It's one of my favourite remixes and I listen to it a lot.

Here's the YouTube posting:
