Sometimes we're too afraid to lose what we have to try to get what we want.

That sentence sums up the troubles of my life, I feel like I'm quoting someone but I do not know who. It applies perfectly to my situation, not really to me, sure somewhat in certain aspects, but more so to someone else in a very specific situation. That situation happens to adversely effect my life. No matter what I say I cannot bestow my will power or motivation, weak as they maybe, to another. I can talk, and the things I say will temporarily change their perspective but not long enough to make any lasting impressions. They will over think the situation and talk themselves out of it for fear of losing what they have or disappointing/hurting those that love them. Even though what they considering doing but ultimately do not have the will power to do will better serve them and those others in the long run. Admittedly it would serve me as well, to what ends I do not know. Perhaps what would transpire would end up having a negative impact on the course of my life, but the point is getting lost... they will not do what they want to do and have already talked themselves out of it and consider it a fantasy.

How do I convince someone to do something they need to do but will never be able to do on their own?

They know what they want, but are not sure. Doubt filters through because the thing that needs to be done to get there is larger then anything they have faced before. They question if the reward is worth it and if the reward is really what it seems to be, perhaps it isn't as glamorous as it seems and they'll only be disappointed when they get it. Now that the excitement has been dimmed by doubt, worry and fear of losing what is already there.

Don't fix it if it isn't broken? -or- Don't settle for miserable contentment when what seems like happiness is on the horizon?
