Presumably, someone is going to post to my journal because of something I wrote tonight, so I figure I should explain myself a bit...
I'm a realist. I am not a Republican; I am not a Moderate. I am very liberal, and I am very much on the left. So, before all the frothing masses call me a fascist or something, keep that in mind.
However, being a Democrat and a Liberal, I am very tired of people NOT like O, who simply are against the war because they're anti-everything. These are people who are just anti-U.S. and think Bush is worse than Saddam (which, by the way, isn't even close to being true).
It happens with economics. Everyone hates the global capitalist system (and capitalism, en masse), but what's the alternative? Communism? That's what most people see as the alternative. The left constantly protests and yells until they're blue in the face about capitalism and how it sucks, but offer no solutions. Why? I don't know.
(On a side note, a lot of these people look to Europe as a perfect place, as though there's pixie dust in the air, which makes everyone love one another and love the enviornment and despise war. It's not that way. People are intolerant, war-like and selfish everywhere you go. Other governments have systems set up where it's not as damaging, but people are still people. Europeans are no better as people than Americans are.)
I don't know the solution to either of these problems (the war, or the growing gap between rich and poor), but I'm a single person. In other times (i.e. the Clinton years), the left had solutions to problems. Now, it just seems everyone wants to bitch about the way things are (and rightfully so), but they don't seem to have any answers. It's much easier to complain about the weather than to make it stop raining.
I hope this works well enough to explain my view. Maybe I'm just a cynical guy. Maybe I'm just lame. But, I just don't see the left changing the world the way everyone seems to talk up.
To sum up: I'd love to live in a world without war, without hatred and without selfishness. That world doesn't exist, though.
Tommorroww; why that world may not be achievable.
