The Hjemkomst Center

The other day I went and took some photos at our local museum which houses a Viking ship made by one of my local heroes Robert Asp, a school guidance counselor who had a dream to build a Viking ship and sail it to Norway. Unfortunately he did not get it done in time before he died of Leukemia, but his students completed the project for him. How amazing is that? Seriously, this is such an incredible dream and it is there to remind me, that life is really what you make of it. And I plan on doing some pretty incredible things with my life.

The crown of the museum, it's probably the most recognizable Fargo/Moorhead landmark... right up there with the Fargo theater.

This is actually taken of the Stave Church replica built by a local craftsman Guy Paulson... he did pretty much everything on this church, SO AMAZING!! shocked

Some close ups on the alter inside... this is supposed to be the queen, I believe...

They shut off the lights (since the original church didn't have lights) and I got this shot of a head of a monk. The place was SO MUCH more amazing with the lights off.

And to think Guy Paulson did all this carving himself!! God, I'd love to create something like this. I think it'd be incredible!

God, I really do love taking photos.

This is back behind the church, they had a walk way that completely surrounded it.

Another fun shot of the Hjemkomst Center. That building is crazy awesome to shoot.

The crown of the gate to the Church and the Hjemkomst crown side by side. I like this shot a lot, too. Very FM (Fargo/Moorhead)

Look how tall the church is!! Inside looking up is very impressive for how small the building is. Really, just thinking someone in Fargo built it is an inspiration to me. biggrin

And here it is, the ship that Robert Asp built.

It's one of the cooler things in Fargo/Moorhead, so give me a break for being so awe inspired by it. wink

Being next to something so impressive and looking at the small details of it always makes it feel more real to me. Like this isn't just for show, it's worn, used. That softens it to my heart. I remember coming here as a child with wide eyes and being so filled with wonder that someone could not only want to create something so big, but would actually do it.

This little imperfection in the rope is another perfect example of that. This crossed the ocean. This actually sailed out from Duluth, MN to Bergen, Norway. How amazing is that?!

There was a tour going through of young kids while I was there. I was once one of those little kids sitting under the ship and looking up at it's huge size. They were all really active and asking questions. It just made me want to tell them "you can have big dreams and do them, too." My middle school was actually named after Robert Asp... their motto? "Dare to Dream"

It's just so cool to me that someone in Fargo made this. I'm sorry.

The bust of Robert Asp himself, with his locally famous quote "So it will go, the dream will move from dream to reality to memories."

I have some amazing dreams in my head and I'm not afraid of making them a reality. In fact, I'm reaching for them every day. One day, my dreams will be a reality and then a memory, too. I have every bit of faith in myself and each and every one of you, for that matter.

MUCH LOVE for you all,

The Riz ♥
