Life sure seems to be enjoying beating my ass recently.

Out of respect, I went up to talk to my boss about my LoZ sleeve. I just wanted to see what his thoughts would be on it; whether i should cover it up or scratch the whole plan out while I'm working there. He said it wouldn't be an issue. That put a load of joy into my little heart ! ^-^

Wait ! He had something to tell me since I was in his office. The main stores up North have decided that starting Jan. 1, piercings (except nose and earrings) are no longer allowed. So that means I'll have to remove quite a fair amount of my visible piercings; my angelbites, vertical labret, septum, and my venoms.
Now I thought about getting retainers but then a memory decided to pop back into my brain; I used retainers 4 yrs ago when I worked at McDonalds. Not only did they irritate and cause my piercings to get infected, but they were also VERY easy to lose. I swallowed about $60 in retainers.
So then I thought, "well maybe I can take them out for work ?" I just couldn't do that.. I'm very attached to my metal, plus, I'm a quick healer. I work 8 to 10 hour days so they'd probably end up closing up during my work hours. So scratch that idea.

So now I'm at a loss. What should I do ?
Honestly, I feel like I should quit. I've been working at IGA for 2 and a half years now. They've never had issues with me. I'm a hard worker and I always get my job done and done well. Now I feel cornered. If they had issues with my piercings, they shouldn't have hired me in the first place.

Moving to Edmonton seems like my only choice now. Maybe then I can find someone to take me under their wing for an apprenticeship. I could also take my modeling career to the next level. But I need opinions ?
Should I conform to my job's new rules and remove my precious metal ? Or should I just say "fuck it" and move on to a job that will accept me for what I look like and look at the way I work to decide what happens to me ?

BurningFury makes very good points to which I'll add one anecdote. I recently spoke to a young woman at HMV on Yonge St. who had cheek piercings as well as several other prominent ones on her face, and remarked how nice I thought it was that they don't discriminate against such things nowadays. She told me that she had never once had an issue and believed that it had to do with one's personality more than any specific aesthetic preferences of the store management. You certainly seem charming enough to make one suspicious about your employer's attitude and priorities.

I think if you tell them nicely that you love your job but would feel sad to give up your jewelry, there might be a way to get them to recognize that such policies are not the route to high morale and enthusiastic staff. You can use your legal rights while making it clear that the issue is only about fairness and you had no wish for conflict but no other recourse.was left to you. If they are real fools then changing jobs becomes an appealing option.

Good luck! smile
