Hmmm... so remember that job I thought was coming my way? Well, now I'm not so sure about it.

To refresh your memories: When I quit my job, one of the regulars, a journalist for the Times, left his card for me in case I stopped by. We had talked every couple of days when he'd come in to buy coffee and apparently, he has a friend who owns a restaurant in the West Village and he thought I might need a new job for the holidays. He'd always been pleasant, but I always had the distinct feeling that he felt he was above me. Despite my better judgement, I decided to email him in the hopes of getting this job. He responded briefly, saying that he was going out of town for the weekend "to write a piece for the Times in Miami." He said he'd get back to me once he returned.

So, here's the fun part: I check my email today and see that I have two emails from him. The first goes something like this... "Hey, I don't know if you've ever read any of my work, but here's an opinion piece on ____ that was in the Times a few weeks ago. [Insert long article]." Period!!! No mention of the job or anything. Email #2 consisted of one sentence that he put in the subject line: "Do you have a cell number?"

What the fuck??? My initial email to him was in reference to the job and nothing more! Why feel the need to self-promote all of a sudden? From what I've heard about him, he has a wife and kid(s)? The guy is just a prick, but now I'm torn between my annoyance and my really needing a job. On top of that, I am kind of wanting to get connections to the literary world and having a friend who writes for the Times would be a great doorway. Gah! mad mad mad

I know, I wanna post some so badly! I'm getting a brand spankin' new camera on my birthday in a week (mine has been broken for what seems like forever, plus I've been so depressed I haven't really wanted to take any photos). So I will post lovely new pics ASAP! I'm also gonna do a set, I think, and send it in. More people need to be exposed to my nikked ass, damnit!

Thanks for comment - I agree with you on not taking the ride into flaming hell. Although I sense a property dispute on the horizon but I'm so not selling this place plus I'm the one who found it and my family and I put the money together to buy it - the ex only put money into the renovations, furniture and a little bit to pay me back for depleting my funds on the downpayment. She can't afford a lawyer plus the paperwork completely favors me. Yeah - never buy property with someone.

And sorry to hear about the weirdo times dude - sounds like he just wanted to get in your pants rather than help out.
