We celebrated Mother's Day on Saturday, as is our custom. I drove the sibs and myself to get pizza (what my mother wanted) and beer (what my father wanted) while they sat in the back reading scraps of my work, written long enough ago for me to cringe thinking about my current self being judged by it. And it was a nice dinner, just the five of us for once (my brother's girlfriend was with her mother, and the Arab was nowhere to be seen), and we talked and joked and ate pizza. And my mom loved the gift I got her; she even cried a little. Then my sister and I did the dishes, my mother went to working on her flowers, and we showed my brother the work we'd been doing on the other house, and then we watched the first X-Men. And even though she said what a joy and a gift it was to get all of her children together ("just the five of us for once"), I kept thinking that her Mother's Day came and went almost without notice. But then, I suppose I feel that way with every special occasion.

But so it's really Mother's Day today, and the sibs and I are going to see X2. I'm sure it'll also be a good day.
