My poetry professor just introduced me to the work of Thomas McGrath, and I think I may now have a new favorite poet. I'll have to wait until I get his books (alas, the local book stores have pitifully small poetry sections, forcing me to wait for orders to come in), but he might give Gregory Corso a run for his money. Indeed, the understated nature of his work is a nice balance to the surrealism of Corso's poetry.
Anyway, these are my two favorite McGrath epigrams that the prof. showed me.
Poem
You out there, so secret.
What makes you think you're alone?
A Tribute
Don't know about those other birds
but you sure scared the hell out of me
you punkin head bastard!
------
I can't wait to see if the rest of his work turns out to be that enjoyable.
