Well, damn! Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes. 
It really meant a lot to hear from all my pixel friends on my "special day."
It's snowing a lot, and I was feeling left out, since I'm stuck in lab all day, so I made a snowman with what I could scrape together from the window sill and some lab supplies.

Update: The snow is making me feel rather cheery and benevolent. Everything just seems so quiet for a change (except for the huge shouting match my neighbors had that woke me at 3 AM). Had a quiet night in last night, as traveling to join my original plans was impossible. I ordered a pizza, took a nice walk to get it, and ended up sharing it with a really grateful homeless guy. Then I finished it, watched a movie and went to bed. It now occurs to me that I have a little over a week to write the rest of my thesis, which is threatening the peaceful atmosphere of the snow, but I'll try not to let it.
